Are the leaves opposite or alternate? Also, to ID euc we usually need some caps. Could be one the southern boys from Oz could maybe identify.

Could be an Angophora, sort of eucalypt.

hmm interesting....angophora is a different genus that eucalyptus, so this might not even be a eucalyptus? eucalyptus are extremely common in Northern california...for this reason i am inclined to think its euc. rather than an angophora...but i could be wrong.... |

| I'm thinking it may be one of the southern blue gums (Eucalyptus globulus spp) but be good to get a closeup of the bark and also buds and leaves... Hard to say without seeing it up close! it looks to have the long slender curved leaves of a Bluey... And i'm also thinking that the tree couldn't be that old! How long ago did they start planting eucs in america? 100 yrs or less? The Eucalyptus globulus spp is an extremely fast growing tree with similar habit to this! you might just have to fly an Aussie over there for a closer look.. |

If it's not Angophora Costata, it may be Blakely's Red Gum (Euc Blakelii) A closer look at leaves and fruit would help. Angophora fruit have raised ridges along them.

| ![]() Given its location and monster size, it is likely to be a Tasmanian Blue Gum (Eucalyptus globulus ssp. globulus). It is by large the most common eucalypt in the Bay Area, and in California in general. Any pic of fallen seed pods, or flower buds, flowers or seed pods on the tree can confirm this. They should be quite large, and not arranged in clusters. Looking like this: We have a truckload of information on these trees, since they are very high numbers of them around here also since the early days of the exploration of Australia! The oldest ones at California could be somewhat older than here. |
