Not worked very much with Morus. The one in your picture is Morus alba? The one in original question is Morus nigra?

I know that but I have yet to become aware of a black mulberry. Ceasing to quote from memory (sketchy at times) I am going to revise my opinion. White mulberry has a smooth shiny leaf surface as the one pictured does. Red mulberry has a "dull dark green and rough surface". Paper mulberry, a 3rd one as I pictured also has a surface with "rough hairs above" as my leaf does. Also found some shrub forms such as Texas Mulberry and Morus Australis (Unryu), but this is obviously not a shrub. I am now placing all my remaining money on white mulberry.

The one book I saved the paper mulberry within it's description pages had all 3 listed. I probably have a dozen or more ID books. All 3 mulberries get the funky variable shaped leaves. The paper have very long leaf stems and is described as having pieces of "paper" hanging. It also has a rough surface. I saved it for all those years and ID'd it because it was so unusual having 2 dif. shaped leaves on one tree (Sassafras also comes to mind). The fibrous inner bark is used for making paper in Japan and China another name derivative listed.
