Default tree id pls - long long needles not pine

hi there - recently I was in the beautiful oz surrounded by my favourite gum trees, but the one I want to ask about isnt a gum...

(I read another post about embedding images but doubt Ive got it right!) Anyway two pics should be attached at least. There were several of these trees at a lakeside reserve in Central Coast. One of them had a resident pair of tawny frogmouths, just wonderful! Anyway I cant identify the tree, everything on line points me to pines but nothing to match this. Im sure its just tree identification 101 but would appreciate your input.

Cheers

I love ths sound of them when in a grove crossing sandhills for your fishing spot, something about it when the wind passes past casuarinas.

I'm in agreement there, the sound is so distinctive and it stirs me every time.....

Certainly a Casuarina (She Oak) you would have had trouble with the ID because the things you decribed as needles are branches and the little rings around these branches are where the leaves are. You often need to count these leaves to get an ID which is a bit hard with the naked eye.

I would go with Casuarina glauca at a guess - extra long needles and the lakeside location.
