Default Student in need of seed ID

My teacher gave us a batch of similar seeds for a research assignment. He told us nothing about them and gave on details. Our one mission is to find the Genus and Species of these unknown seeds, I thought this would be a great place to post and possibly get led in the right direction. The seeds are small all about the size of your pinky finger nail.

Thanks!
I found the answer while eating a salad! The seeds turned out to be a common olive! the pics are a bit a different and have darker, deeper lines but they are still olive tree seeds. Common olive Olea europaea Now I have the task of planting them. These seeds where not killed in salty brine of a can or anything my teacher bought them for planting on-line. I currently have soaked them in water for a day then planted a few just in pots by the window....now I wait. I also planted a few hydo to see if I could get any results, anyone know the germination rate of the olive?
How long do they usually take to germinate?
How does nature sow the seeds?
Thanks for doing my home work.

Go figure.
I am lucky I picked the olive tree seeds, some in the class were handed such trees as Monterey cyprus, and dawn red wood to name a few. I got extra credit thanks to you. Is it reasonable to see these seeds germinate in 4-5 weeks?
