Default Single Trunk Winter Tree ID in Upstate NY, USA

My tree identification skills are very bad when Winter rolls around. Here is the first of two species on a lot that I will be helping to organize a community beautification project this coming spring and summer, and it would be nice to know the species that are currently present. But without leaves or fruit I need some help in confirming them. This is located in Upstate NY, USA.

First tree is single trunk, 15-20 ft tall, the bark reminds me of locust but I couldn't see any obvious thorns.

I couldn't really tell what this tree was by the bark or twigs, but the black knot (basically tumors caused by a fungus) gives it away. It's some type of cherry (or possibly a plum) in the genus Prunus.

Hopefully someone can narrow it down further for you.

Thank you. Someone else also confirmed Prunus, but we haven't narrowed it down to species yet.

The buds strongly suggest cherry vs plum, but cherries can be hard to differentiate without the leaves or flowers or fruit.
