Default Red berry tree- need ID (pix this time)

Hi all,

I'm trying to identify a tree in my backyard in Los Angeles. It's over 20ft tall with dark green glossy leaves. The leaf margins are entire. The red berries almost look like Hawthorne berries and have the texture of crab apples (about 0.5in diameter). There are large clusters of them that fall off every autumn. I just need to make sure that they aren't poisonous for my very curious children.

Thanks so much!!

Jessica

A bit closer up shot of the fruit would be excellent for 100% ID, however at this stage she looks like a Syzygium species. If so, the fruits are edible and tart. Inside should be a single seed....

Yep, looks like a Lilly Pilly, you can eat the fruit (not the seeds) and even make jam out of it.

Thanks everyone for your help! I'm relieved to find out that they aren't poisonous and may even be edible.

hahahahah yes, plenty of sugar in that jam. Bloody tart fruits...

Could possibly be Eugenia, many are synonymous with Syzygium..
