Hi everybody, during one of my walks through a local park today I came across a few trees of which I'd love to know what species they are. Normally I'd resort to my Collins Tree Guide book and might actually have a reasonable shot at ID'ing this particular tree, but alas, the book is away in storage. ![]() Any help would be greatly appreciated. ![]() Many thanks for your assistance. |

Here are two more photographs. Units are in centimeters. Oh and these were taken in the Netherlands. |

The genus appears to be serviceberry (pronounced sarvisberry), Amelanchier Medik., with the identification key being the secondary leaf veins that run along the main vein for such a short distance that magnification may be necessary to see it clearly. The other photos are consistent with this identification, but not conclusive. They are also know as juneberries so you just missed the fruit that is as good as if not better than a blueberry. The location in the Netherlands suggest the species is A. ovalis Medik., or if planted (or escaped/naturalized) it could be A. lamarckii F.G. Schroed., which is presumably a hybrid of American species that is oddly reportedly widespread in Europe, but not found in America where it could be confused with either of the 3 possible parents.
