Default Please help identify a tree - Has "pods" that pop like a firecracker

Hello!
I was hoping someone might be able to help me identify a tree. I was out for a walk in a different city (or else I would just go back and ask the owner what their tree is) when we walked under this tree we heard a pop sound. We discovered the tree had these balloon like "pods" that had fallen and when you step on them they make a great pop sound.

If I recall correctly the "pods" felt and looked like leaves. Maybe 3 or 4 connected together to form this balloon of sorts. They were hollow and full of air and soft/flexible. You could gently squeeze them and not pop them.

I also want to say that the tree might have had some yellow flowering on the tips.

If it is any help this would have been USDA Zone 5.

Thank you so much for any help! It is greatly appreciated.

That'd be the Popicus Leafius native to zone 5. Also related to the Snapicus Leafius and the Cracklius Leafius.

Do you have any pictures?

Someone should get this one though, without the pictures, I've seen exactly what you're talking about before and they're really quite distinct.

My first guess would be Silverbell, second guess Paulownia. Neither have yellow flowers.
