Ripping two of these out for a customer (and taking one for my own garden ,) but have absolutely no idea what it actually is. The leaves are about 5-7cm long, deciduous, the bushes (which seem to shoot from the base a lot like a Japonica and some Prunus' do) are around 8ft high. Flowers are about 12mm long and highly fragrant. I have a feeling that I really should know this one...

With opposite branching like that, and the kind of twigs, a variety of viburnum?

| The leaves (the dried ones I found) look quite like a viburnum too, but the flowers are born singly or in twos with individual stems. Also I've never run into a viburnum with an aroma like this one. Chanel (bloody stink) has nothing on this. Sorta like a mix between basic Rose scent (not cinnamon scented or tea roses) and Daphne or something.

Found it! Was searching through scented viburnums when I spotted it. Not a viburnum, but Chimonanthus praecox. Many thanks for the help treeshaveneeds. This one goes down with Magnolia (Michelia) figo, Daphne, Gardenia, Leculia and Lemon Verbena on my list of favourite scented plants.
