Default Need help identifying this Berkeley tree

I see this tree all over Berkeley CA, but cannot figure out what it is. please help identify.

Looks like a Black Locust - Robinia pseudoacacia. You would know for sure if you find small thorns on the twigs.

It could be, but the images I see on line of a black locust tree have much larger trunks than the ones I see in Berkeley and don't seem to be as evenly shaped. I tend to think of the shape as a little bit more mop-headed with a ton of fraying branches hanging down like a weeping willow, but not as much as a mayten tree would. does this make sense?

what size are the leaves? we dont have anything to gauge them by.

Pretty sure it is a Tipu. From the pics anyway.
