Robinia psudoaciaca maby, honey locust is common name.

Robinia pseudocacia.
timber can be brittle and can be a nuisance when pruning as branch unions can be weak and prone to snapping.

sure glad there's not too many of them this way (North Shore). Felled a leyland cypress on a job once in Dunedin and a twig collected a limb of a robinia and snapped the whole limb off.
grow like weeds too!

Yeah i hate them so bad, ive still got a piece of a thorn in my thumb from clearing 10 or so trees re - grown from stumps, about 8 weeks ago.
