I worked on this tree today any ideas on the genus...








it has the most amazing bark.

Looks like a Chinese Elm ~ Ulmus parvifolia

Thats what i thought but the bark is totally different to what i have seen before

Galbee,

You are confusing it with the weed common Chinese elm around the place, especially near creeks. That weedy one is called Celtis chinensis.

That's what happens with common names, but the one Sean says is also called common name Lacebark Elm.

Its commonly called a Lacebark Elm around Kansas.
