Hi all I just bought a house in eastern Ky and have a very unusual tree planted next to it that noone seems to be able to identify...please help if you can! It has long stems {about 2"} holding white four pedal flowers with green centers in the spring ......the flowers fall off quickly leaving the stems and centers which turn into a red 'cherry like' fruit except the 'cherries are spiked and have orange centers when cut in half! Please tell me what this is!!

Need pics of flowers and leaves to be sure, but it sounds like Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum). If this is what the tree is, the leaflets are 4 to 10 inches long, serrated edges, and 5 to 7 leaflets in a palmately (all leaflets from a central point) common leaf.

If it is Cornus kousa the fruit would have a stony pit, like a cherry, the fleshy part would resemble a raspberry and it is edible. Need more info and pics.,

Sounds more like a Cornus kousa with the flower description. Aesculus flowers are in clusters and look like mini rhodo flowers. Mabye even a C. nuttallii |
