An actual photo might help but if I had to guess maybe a yellow[slash] pine.

Funny you mention that JayD.

The young lady who did the magnetic decals for my truck sent me a whole palette of tree icons to pick through. That pictured tree (albeit with a different background) is an almost exact match to one of the one's she sent.

The palette had something to do with fonts and such, and were more like artists renditions of examples of tree forms, and not actual representations of living trees. It may be close to some species though.

It might be what newguy18 said: -
Slash Pine Pinus eliottii.
It's from the South of the US so let them (the locals) answer.

Most Aussies and Kiwis wouldn't know it,
unless they were in forestry.
It's used as the alternative to Pinus radiata.
Widely used in Forestry in that part of SE Qld behind Tin Can Bay,
Wide Bay, south of Hervey Bay, inland from Fraser Island.

I don't think it's grown in the UK,
so that makes the second and third answers (from JayD and Therrin)
possibilities too if the question came from someone in the UK
(that is, an idealised tree suitable for a decal).

Am I allowed to switch camps? lol

I've seen stuff like that up above Yosemite in the Tuolemne Meadows area, up close to the timber line It's been several years now so I didn't remember it till I saw the pictures of the ponderosa pine.

That is... if that is what that is a representation of.

if indeed it would be a slash pine then around here they are notorious for breaking in half. They don't usually devolp rot unless of course they are dead but just weak codominant stems and overall soft wood.
Slash pine
I have one in my back yard that doesn't follow the natural growth pattern of them because its out in the open.

Can I ask a small off topic question here? Why would anyone use magnetic decals on a truck? Is that frequently done over there? We use stickers or paint jobs instead but maybe magnetic signs are better in some ways...
Could anyone explain this please?

It seems to be more popular over here espically on pickup trucks so if you decide to sell your truck you can keep your biz logos. Its a heck of a lot cheaper than a paint job.

I had them done because a friend of mine from way back has a side job making both vinyl magnetic decals and vinyl stickers.

I wanted a way to advertise my business on my truck, without it being permanent. California is pretty strict on having business liscences in *all* the cities you advertise in. So if I'm gonna drive up to Bakersfield for the day, there are 4 or 5 cities I don't have liscencing in that I'd be passing through, and that allows me to take them off so I don't get cited.

Yes, it sounds stupid, but that's California for ya. As for rust.... <shrugs> its a brand new toyota with some really good paint on it. I wash my truck once a week, and each time I just pull the decals off and wash as usuall. Clean the back of the decals, dry, and re-apply. They haven't even caused any scratches. I'm really quite fond of them, I didn't know they had such a negative following.

She made me one for each door, and one for the tailgate for $40. I thought it was a good deal.

That picture silhouette looks like our longleaf pine trees here in Louisiana.

That'd be Pinus palustris...Long-leaf Pine/Pitch Pine/Southern Pine and many other synonyms (according to Rowell - Conifers).
