A black and white picture embedded into a word document showing the base of a tree with a stack of debris 1m up the trunk.

Epic fail.

Just load them direct to here, no more than 1000px wide or 250kb file size.

Have distance shots too but it's tougher when they've got no foliage etc.

Thank you for the reply. I need to know the type of tree for the planning department. So the fact you think it is an Acer is perfect.

Right I have been out in the snow and taken a small twig/branch off the tree and also found a leaf that was still attached albeit shrivelled up.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Thank you very much

Is there any way of telling roughly how old the tree is?

Also is it a rare tree and are the local planning people likely to have a problem with it being removed if need be?

Thanks

Rare not really. It depends on the location as to whether the local T.O has any problem with its removal

Short of taking a core sample, basic site history might help. When was the garden put in? How old is the house? That sort of thing. At a guess from the photos I'd say anything between 10-40yrs depending on soil/weather conditions etc. It grows to around 10-25m, this one is not an enormous specimen.

I meant where in the locality rather than county. Ring the local tree section, ask to check TPO and conservation status of the address of the house. They may ask what you plan to do, tell them if it is subject to any orders you will apply if it isn t then it is none of their business.

Ok thank you for all the replies.

This is the issue I have with the local tree section, Im not in any conservation area and there are no trees in my garden with TPO, but they are asking lots of questions about this one tree!

I have applied to build a detached cart lodge approx 2m away from this tree which is why the questions have been asked.

I thought that if there was no TPO and no conservation area then there shouldnt be a problem.

Over here the bastids will shove a TPO on you when you lodge a Development Application (DA) .... even for pools, garages, extensions etc.

SO CUT YOUR TREES BEFORE LODGING DA's

Hello Gooday,

It might be worth your while spending the time visiting a good town planning firm and discussing with them the implications of the planning scheme in your area if the council tree officer is unable to clarify things.

Sounds like you are trying to do things correctly so I would expect that your local council will be able to help, try to speak to the tree officer in person and enquire what issues might affect your proposed building/development.

If everyone removed established vegetation before applying for a Development Application (DA) there would be very little urban forest left, and that would not result in a desirable environment to live and work in...IMO.

The only Local Government Authority (LGA) that I have encountered in Queensland that is able to put in place Vegetation Protection Orders (VPO's) is Brisbane City Council, it is a complicated and usually time consuming process, it is a provision within their existing local law structure and is not directly connected with the planning process, or DA's.

If there is no TPO or Conservation area you can do what you like. However the questions might be more to do with the spec for foundation depth rather than tree protection.Or tree root protection zone as per B.S 5837

Yes they are quoting BS 5837 for RPA.

The only tree whose RPA falls into the prosposed development area is the one pictured above hence why I wanted to find out what it was.

From what I can gather this tree probably falls into Category C for BS5837 and as such we could remove it in order to proceed the development.

Pomme, your not based in Essex by any chance to do a survey??

thanks
