Hello Tree World-ites ... I found this tree/bush in a yard in Kerang (North Western Victoria, australia); it is currently 2.5 - 3 metres tall with leaves ranging in colour from a pale yellow through light green and dark rich green - the leaves appear and feel waxy and quite robust. The owner told me she planted this from a cutting about 16 years ago - the tree/bush looks very healthy. she graciously gave me some cuttings from the ends of lower down branches (the photos attached) where it can be seen the colour changes from yellow to green (other the other way round). I am keen to find out what it is ... any help would be appreciated. Thanks! John |

looks like Euonymus japonicus (Spindle Bush). The colour and variegation can be hugely variable. Very slow growing plant!

Thank you for your response; however, I'm not sure that it is the Spindle Bush as the owner informed me it does not flower - even though some of the growth appears to be flowers. Also, the specimen I have seen appears to be "bush shape" but bigger than what you expect of a bush. Thanks again. John

Hi again, the flowers are generally insignificant on E. japonicus and its varieties so it would be easy to miss them. I am pretty sure your plant is E. japonicus var. aureus. They can get to a metre and a half or so in height and width. Euonymus japonicus var. aureus - User-generated plant facts and information I'm not sure what you mean by 'bush shape'. Like, a rounded bun shape? Cheers! |

My apologies for the "bush shape" ... I guess what I meant is where a tree has a trunk and the branches clearly come from that a bush tends to be a clump of branches closer together (to my eye anyways). Again, thank you for your help, John
