Looking for help to ID this tree in my aunt's yard in Jackson Michigan Bark looks like cedar or cypress but it drops it's leaves. Sorry the pictures are not the best but I am now back in MA and can't take more. ![]() |

It is quite possible that this tree is not native to this reagion. There are several other exotic trees on the property.

Looks like a Taxodium. Most probably T. distichum. Cool deciduous conifer that loves water!

might also be a Dawn redwood - Metasequoia glyptostroboides, also a deciduous conifer

haha yes was thinking about this in the car. Couldn't see the close up of the leaf but if the leaves are opposite then it is metasequoia

I think it is a Dawn Redwood. The leaves are opposite. Thanks for your help. |

| +1. It's a deciduous conifer (kind of an oxymoron), but it will drop it's needles in the fall. Usually found in swamps, but can certainly be planted and survive in upland areas.
