Hiya I'd like help to ID these 3 young trees, growing in the China/S.E. Asia section of an arboretum in Suffolk, England but with no labels. The pics were taken yesterday. The first has spikily-toothed, alternate, hairless leaves on 1-2 inch stalks. The second has opposite, pinnate, hairless leaves, the flowers having yellow anthers on a long filament. The third is the hardest! Doesn't have any fruit or flowers, opposite leaves, hairless on 1-2 inch stalks. Maple? Any ideas ? Cheers |

I can't see how the first tree leaves join to the stem, but the leaf shape reminds me of elm. If the 2nd tree really does have pinnately compound leaves, need to see the whole leaf, rather than a few leaflets. The leaves of the 3rd tree remind me of Amur Maple. Shots of trunk bark may also help. How diligent are the gardeners? COuld species not of Asia be growing in this section? |

I've just had another look and I think it is Amur maple. Didn't think I'd ever get that one! Thankyou.

The 2nd pic shows flowers - are they 4 or 5 petals per head? and would it be possible to get a structural picture of the flower head --identifying plants can be done with flowers but need to know structure. First pic of flower was good, just need more info. ![]() Dov or Julie would prob have a better idea. |

I'm pretty sure it is Euodia hupehensis. I'd like to say I ID'd it myself but I managed to find a ranger to ask! Cheers.
