Yeah, just lay off the palms though .... I'm so over them that I don't notice much anymore what the berries look like.

They're seeds from a 'palm plant'... palms don't qualify for 'tree' status, but rather they are in the 'large plant' family..... Old college professors use to be very proud of having students slip up on that one....along with their "how does nitrogen get into the ground.. naturally ?"

The Cassia fistula pods are larger, the trees leaves are larger ... this tree has smaller leaves.

Ah ha! But trying to tell the difference between fistula, javonica and leptophylla by juvenile seed pods is near impossible. Here's the mature ready to fall seed pod of the leptophylla, note the foliage similarity however the leaflets are different if you look closely.

Galbee they really don't last long once they fall from the tree, seem to be broken down very quickly...I quess if you had the tree over your pool or new BMW then perhaps it could be demanding during blossom fall, but they are not particularly messy IMO, certainly less than other Cassias. It is a shame they are not more easily available from nurseries, if you have enough room in your garden bed these natives make a great show during the year. |

Yes Leichardt bean....Narrow pods about 15mm diameter maybe 300mm long, mine has never really produced large volumes of seed. Once established they grow reasonably well, in my experience not quick like a forest pioneer though. |
