Default Gold Coast Queensland - tree species? -arbourist needed

Good morning All,

I'm looking to hire an arborist in Queensland's, Gold Coast area (Tugun) to give my tree a health assessment, hair cut or last rights as maybe required.

Anyone local who thinks they know what my tree is and wants the job?

Cheers,
Anne

I think it's a Glochidion ferdinandi (Cheese tree).

Does it get little red fruit things about the size of small cherry tomatoes?

Other than that it could be a Citharexlem spinosum (Fiddlewood tree).

Dont know what you're after but either of those two species shoot like crazy when trimmed, maybe you can only get away with about 10% trimming a year without sparking off some epicormic flush.

My advice, remove only what is specifically necessary, deadwood, diseased wood, dying, decayed etc. The tree seems to be mature so leave it alone. If you wanted to cut the top off then search "topping" or "hatracking" on this forum and see why you should not do it.

Bingo!

After a short google to confirm I'd say you're spot on, it's definately a Cheese Tree.

Well done Eric & Bernard!

It's the good old story of neighbours hate the tree (it drops twigs on thier driveway) & we love it. We value our neighbours enough that we would have cut it down if it was sick, a pest species or at it's age limit.

As it is a privacy screen, favourite of the local lorekeets & king parrots & now it appears a threatened species, we'll champion the argument for it's preservation.

To placate the neighbours a little we'd like it safely trimmed. The removal of dead wood & less than 10% as suggested. Plus we'll offer to regularly remove tree debis for them.

Eric, are you interested in doing the job? If not, is there anyone local area who you'd recommend?

Thankyou,
Anne

Call Steven Jackson of Jackson Tree Service on the Gold Coast, I went to arb college with him, he's a good guy.

Tell him about this thread at Treeworld and the post so he can look it up and know the go before he leaves home.

He is a member here but doesn't post.

Wanna hear something funny?

I actually know Steve. Small world huh?.......and yes, he is a good guy.

I know him though a watersport. Blonde that I am, I forgot that's what he does. I guess because I see him on the beach and there ain't no chainsaws there.

I'll be calling him today.

My sincere thanks to you again Eric

OMG, this coincidence is simply too funny!

Guess who appears three times in the photo slideshow?

Aqua rashie & very loud yellow tartan boardies. What was I thinking?
