Hello,

Since the first time I saw the movie The Patriot with Mel Gibson years ago I fell in love with these white trees. Can anyone tell me what tree this is?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I would say it's one of those huge oaks, perhaps even from The Avenue of Oaks. They're covered in Spanish moss.

Hi all! I'm new to the forum. Saw this pic of a beautiful live oak tree and thought I'd chime in with my personal thoughts. Thanks!

This tree is a very old Live Oak tree. They thrive mostly in the Southeast Atlantic coastal plain-- North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and along the Southeast Gulf coast in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
The one shown here was filmed for the movie The Patriot at, I believe, Middleton Place outside of Charleston, South Carolina. This live oak has Spanish Moss, which only grows on live oaks that are close to the Southeast coast (in NC/SC/GA/FL on the Atlantic side) and it grows on some trees in roughly the lower third to lower half of the U.S. Southern Gulf states (FL/AL/MS/LA). This moss requires a very humid climate, and very temperate/warm winters to grow. I live near Raleigh, North Carolina, and although we have some beautiful live oaks this far in-land, they do not have spanish moss. The weather is not temperate enough this far in-land to grow the moss.
