This tree is so close to my house I can reach out the window and touch it. It is a fast growing tree and branches can be broken off easily. As I live in a cyclonic area am wondering if I should be worried about it and of course what it is. You can see from the second pic that it is causing chaos with the pavers and the yellow flowers from it on the ground. Thanks in advance. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It could be euodia or evodia Tetradium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Have search and see what it compares like, most flower pinky colour though ... that I see anyway. Matches the description, fast growing, brittle, looks similar and when in flower I think they stink!

We suspect it is Euroschinus falcata ~ ribbon wood, crushed leaves smell like mango, the fruit are small black berries. It is one of the most beautiful native trees that grow in a very wide range of soil conditions....we would not be at all concerned by the percieved risk from a young healthy specimen. Would advise to rethink the location of the pavers or choose alternative surface treatment...woodchip or gravel. Seriously ribbon wood is really really beautiful and well worth hanging onto. ![]() Advice from a qualified Arborist will be cheaper than a quote from a lopper to remove what appears to be a perfectly healthy young tree. Branch conflicts with buildings can be managed...assuming your house is on posts/piers. |

I think Sean has got this one Ekka. The crushed leaves do indeed smell like green mango, and the flowers do indeed turn into black berries. Apparently they are good to eat...will have to do some more research on that. As for the pavers at the base of the tree they are going to come up and we will do something else like gravel as you suggest. And, we do not want to get rid of it...just have to manage the branches and keep the gutters clean!!! Excellent, thanks guys. Have some more unidentified trees here so will post again soon. EKKA - 1 (Candlenut) SEAN - 1 (Ribbonwood) |
