Default Resistograph| Decay Detection| Timber Diagnostic Tool| IML Australia

Internal Tree Decay Detection Tool

The Resistograph tool plays a significant investigative role in modern arboriculture for the determination of the internal state of a tree. Many councils have now adopted the Resistograph method for decay detection in trees. Applications include testing trunk, upper limbs and the vital basal root crown region as it is capable to test at 45 degrees below ground level. The Resistograph gives the arborist another “string to his bow” and compliments the visual tree assessment (VTA). Even the experienced arborist is sometimes surprised of the outcome on a Resistograph test as the visual assessment did not indicate any faults.

Resistographs come in many models, F150, F300, F400, F500 electronic and non electronic. The electronic models give the operator a printout that is easy to read and understand.

IML Australia also provides the Resistograph owner with a full backup in terms of service, advice and training including certification.

IML Australia/NZ is owned and operated by Peter Blank and is the direct subsidiary in Australia from the headquarters of IML Germany. We have a full service department right here in Australia for all aspects of servicing the Resistograph.

Hi Peter,

What a great tool in the hands of a trained operator, I was lucky enough to recieve four hours hands on training using a Resistograph at Ryde Tafe.

We probed a tree that was hit by lightning and the Tafe has been monitoring it's state of structual health, this tool gives a clear insight to the internal structure of the tree at the point of the probe.

A Resistograph would definately be an investment for any Consulting Arborist at an affordable price with full technical backup, full training and certification, all this on our own shores, a big step forward for Australian Arboriculture.

Thanks for providing this tool.

I have seen Peter Jenkins Use it in Georgia and Nebraska in several demonstrations and the Resistograph is definitely easy to use. Then making a good recommendation about what the graph tells you that requires proper training by a Qualified Arborist with some years of experience.
Nice tool thou.

Thanks for your comments and Yes, it is easy to use provided the operator has had proper training. That is why we provide operator training and certification.
cheers

Abslutely ! It is sometime surprising ! - we can probably guess that it has decay, but we dont know the extent without a test........

Incidentally we have a as new demo Electronic Resistogaph going for a very good price. If anyone is interested, please contact us.

Cheers

Here is a interesting case of a Silky Oak that had absolutely no visible sign of decay. Only a rootcrown test with a Resistograph has revelled a very unsafe tree. this tree was subsequently removed and the attached photos show the extent of decay.
See ppt attachment.

Resistograph Certification

As it is not in our interest to have unqualified Resistograph operators out there, we run IML Australia Certification workshops. If anyone is interested, please contact me as to when and where the next one will be held.
Tentatively we are planing one in Toowoomba (QLD) the end of June.
regards
Peter

Take advantage of this 30 % Investment Allowance when you purchase a Resistograph.

This is not financial advice & they should contact their accountant to discuss before the purchase of the equipment.

30% Investment Allowance
The government has finally released draft legislation on an additional tax deduction of up to 30% for investments in new assets.

Here's an example of some of the benefits of using a chattel mortgage/hire purchase to finance the purchase of a new equipment costing $10,000 + GST of $1,000 before 30 June 2009.

-An additional $3,000 tax deduction for the 2008-09 year, being the investment allowance

-$1,000 input tax credit for GST paid on purchase of the Equipment (where applicable)

-Tax deductions for depreciation (based on a cost of 10,000) and interest on the loan

-No initial capital outlay/deposit.

The tax break provides you with a narrow investment window for obtaining the deduction.

Have a chat to your accountant.

I think in last nights budget they said the deductible for equipment this financial year was bumped up to 50%! Check with your accountant of course and what qualifies.

That is right Eric,
here are some more details:

2009 – 2010 Federal Budget Report

Small business tax relief

As part of previous stimulus packages, small business (those with a turnover of less than $2 million) will be able to claim a bonus tax deduction for the acquisition of eligible assets, inaddition to the usual capital allowance deduction. Initially set as a 10% bonus deduction, then 30%, the bonus has again been lifted to 50%. The asset must be purchased between 13/12/08 and 31/12/09 and be used or installed ready for use by 31/12/10.
