| A 2 day climbing workshop with good climbers like that for that sort of money is a steal. It asks that you have some climbing experience and your own gear, failing that you can buy some. What you will learn hands on will be worth every cent. These dont happen all that often, and you might think that the workplace is where you'll learn however you'll not have pressure here, everyone is different meaning not only will you get benefit from instructors but I assure you other participants will have a few perks themselves. Frankly, if you are within driving distance snap the opportunity up. Aerial rescue training alone will set you back around the same money. I'd also say that if you have any groundies with basic skills, be a good boss and send them along, they might rescue some-one some day. Not to often you get some hands on real world stuff like this, go for it, and the fee is tax deductible anyway.

| This is a steal! The price for what you get is almost unheard of. These guys have so much experience and what you would learn on the day would pay for itself tenfold. Not to mention all food and drink provided inclusive. It's also worth a mention the the Waite Arboteum is the perfect spot for it, with 2300 trees , it's a beautiful setting, amazing trees, so also a relaxing couple of days.... a Friday and Saturday. Come to think of it considering airfares are so cheap it's is really worth to fly over, if anyone is concerned about accomadation sent me a private message and I'll help you find a good deal.( we also have great pubs in Adelaide )cheers Polly |

| Is this the first event of its kind by Treenet? If its a success, perhaps they could take the show on the road. Lets hope people make the effort because it looks like great value for money. Nothing like hands-on tuition to learn the short-cuts |

Treenet also does some really interesting other things, like street tree trials, and it's grown rosemary from anzac cove( some solider brought back a little plant from gallipolli and their growing lots of it.) Their avenues of honour is also a big thing and such a nice idea. Polly | |

| Give me your number I'll tell them. How are similar things in the U.K advertised? And what kind of numbers do you get? I think it's great they are trying to organise for groundies to come as well, it's so important for groundies to understand all this stuff as well. Polly ![]() |

However, there are a group of guys called The European TreeClimbers Forum who put on similar such workshops at the shows each year. I believe they are funded by various sponsors and are fast gaining recognition for their excellent work. I jumped on this thread because I believe its a just cause which deserves encouragement and support. As a freelance climber, I get to work with crews who are really falling behind on the evolution of treework. Sure they get the job done but is often the case that they are truly working much harder than need be. The fact that they can manage without is really not the point. Work smart not hard.....only a fool would disagree Latest techniques and gadgetry are not always the answer of course, but the how and more importantly when to apply can truly be invaluable in the now very competitive market that is commercial Treework. So hands on expert tuition = great opportunity in my experience. Also, Polly, I couldn't agree more with you on your last point. I look forward to reading the reviews on this event, some photos would also be a great addition. In a sporting sense of course, you wont hear this very often from a pommie, but just this once..... | Hooray RC1 your onto it!! ![]() ![]() ![]() I have written to TREENET to tell them the great things you write. that is very encouraging and you are on the money, gosh just to have an ordinary good climber for two days to teach you everything they know( if you are begining) is an bloody good deal let alone two of such high caliber and lunch is supplied. I'm going and i'm not a climber or a groundie( not fast enough and I wear heels ) but it is invaluable for me also.I will post pics I promise. If there are any of you tree world guys thinking of flying over for it do let me know i can try and organise transport, accomodation that is cheap etc. It could be a weekend of intense learning to improve your own standards; plus relaxing in a beautiful environment and a mini holiday for not much money at all.The Adelaide arbortetum really rocks. You could spend days in there alone just looking at the trees. we just want you all to come along Last edited by polly : 7th February 2008 at 10:36 PM. |
