| Online Seminars also is presenting an article about Fibrous Root Systems: Online Seminars: Fibrous Root Systems The article is focused on using recent container developments that nurseries are using to encourage fibrous root systems. I wonder if this is the best way to grow trees for our urban landscapes? Is this really better than BR, B&B, or tree spade as the nurseries would have you believe. _________________ Len Phillips Administrator Online Seminars for Municipal Arborists |

| I'm game for anything that's either an improvement, or a good extra alternative. The only thing I tried recently - the past year - is fully wrapping root bags, and all I can say is that they are the most miserable containers I've ever dealt with. Those were ones wrapping the sides and wrapping the underside. Unfortunately, the makers made a product that allows some fine roots to penetrate the bag. The cracking or fracturing to the root ball, to get the "d_mned" bag off, is unacceptible. I'd take B&B anyday. Or, a bag that decays in the hole might be nice. But I won't touch a root bag with a ten foot pole for years to come. Only if it's a last option, or a bag where roots won't penetrate. |
