Default Wood Boss vs. Farm Boss

Dad is fixin' to retire his old Jonsered in favor of a new Stihl....should I steer him toward the MS 270 Wood Boss or the MS 290 Farm Boss? Anybody know if either is built better than the other?

I just realized the MS 270 is NLA from the factory....Race Bro's here in town has three left. I think we should grab one up before they go the way of the MS 361!

I have both, the 270 is alot smoother, but has less power than the 290. If I had to just have one it would be the 270. The 290 has a 20in bar and the 270 a 18in.

I bought a 271 and am very happy with it. I like the ugrades over the 270 and 290 and it is lighter than the 290.

270 or 290 Stihl will work. All you need to do is a minor muffler mod(retune carb afterwords )and put a good sharp chain and go cut wood

had great luck with dads 290 FB. cuts almost as strong as my 036 even with the semi chisel safety chain. thats after a quick muff mod and tunning the carb

I've ran both and if I had to pick one it would be the 290. The 290 will out run the 270 both having MM's. The AV on the 270 it a little weak and easy to bottom out IMO. I also do not like how far apart the handles are on the 270. The 290 has been around for a long time and are proven to be a good saw.
