Default Why is Husqvarna 346XP sprocket cover silver?

I have been running my new 346XP almost every day now and have been thinking why did Husqvarna decide to paint the sprocket cover silver gray. The rest of the saw is all orange, so whats with the odd silver color?
Then I began thinking about other small saws like these in professional 8 hour, 5 day a week pulpcutting with the paint wore right off the covers right down to the bare metal.
The 346XP was designed almost solely for pro pulpcutting with the 6 point limbing technique in mind, which is hell on the saws' paint.
Do any of you think this may be Husqvarnas "commemorative design" to display the true soul of this saw?
Willard.

P.S. come on you guests from the other sites, I see you lurking here, join up and maybe you have an answer for this. How about you SawTroll you haven't posted in a while.

I think Husky thinks it looks classier with the gray cover.

I thought they look stupid from the first time I saw one. I recently bought a 346 and although I really love it, I still think the cover look stupid.

And it shows every scuff mark from day one, and I wish I had an orange cover instead.

What ever reason Husky decided on the gray cover is beyond me , at least they could have used a more durable paint. Mine is all scuffed bad too. I may just have to go buy an old style orange one.

The decal just came off mine. I want a new saw....

The grey may be to help distinguish the saw from the old 45 cc saw.

I think your right. That was their marking for "NE".
Remember all the different chrome stickers Stihl put on their upgraded saws. I think the 038 had about 5 different ones, Super, Magnum. Super 2,Mag 2, Artic.

I've had to be more carefully blowing my saws off with compressed air as I've blown off some decals like on my 3120 and it's took a while to get a new one.

Saws look pretty funky without a decal on the sidecover...

Good suggestion, but I believe they are changing the sprocket covers to "silver" on other xp saws as well....

Btw, that silver paint wears off and discolors very fast - I don't really like it, but WTF........

The NE346xp is an extremly good saw, but there are a few issues with its outside fit and finish (that doesn't really matter)..........

My 2003 353G looks better than my late 2007 346xp, even though it has seen a lot nore use!

My 346XP's finish is now after 9 months of use a little rough too. But the saw was designed to work not sit there and look pretty.
I have heard complaints about the 346's narrow bottom not allowing the saw to sit upright while it is idling on the ground. I say the 346XP was designed to cut wood as efficiently as possible 8 hrs a day, not sit on the ground.
Willard.

Ok I signed-up, and here is a delayed answer for you.

The 346xp orange is 46cc and the 346xp silver (new edition) is 50cc

Simple more bling makes the saw more attrative to non husky buyers. It is simply a marketing trick.

the new to come out 560, 562XP and T540XP are coming with a two tone orange / gray color scheme , like you said a good marketing trick.
