Default weight of 5105

Hello, everyone,
The Dolmar website lists the 5105 as weighing 10.8 lbs, but the kwf report lists it as 5.7 kg without cutting equipment, which is about 12.25 lbs. The kwf weight sounds way too heavy, and I suspect an error at kwf. Does anybody know the correct weight of that saw?

Thanks, NMurph. I looked again at the Dolmar site. The weight listed there is 11.2 lbs, not 10.8 as I said in the first post. That's still quite a ways from 12 or 12.25. That goes beyond "fudging."

All the saw companies fudge a bit on weight.

I got a definitive answer to the discrepancy between the Dolmar website claim of 11.2 lbs for the 5105, and the KWF test weight of about 12.25 lbs. At a Dolmar and Jonsered dealer, they put the 11.2 lb 2153 on the scale. With bar and chain it weighed 14 lbs. Then the 5105, which weighed in at 15.5 lbs with bar and chain. The 5105 might have had a little longer bar, but that wouldn't weigh an extra pound and a half. So the Dolmar claim of 11.2 lbs for the 5105 is bunk.

A 2153 should weigh about 11.4lbs, give or take an ounce or two, PHO.
When you start weigh saws with bars and chains, mix and oil, too many variables are introduced to make the weights truly meaningful.
Virtually every saw I weigh is spec'ed a bit optimistically. Usually by the amout a clutch cover weighs, though sometime the felling dogs also need to be removed to get the weight to match the factory numbers.

Both saws were new, on the shelf, so should have been empty of gas and oil. Not sure if the bar and chain was longer on the Dolmar, but it wouldn't have been by much. An extra two inches would only add a quarter pound or less. The scale weight of the 5105 pretty much confirms that the KWF test weight of 12.25 lbs (when converted from 5.7 kg without cutting equipment), is correct, and not the Dolmar claim of 11.2 lbs. That goes way beyond fudging. I wonder how many parts you'd have to take off the Dolmar to lose a whole pound!
