For you guys down under wanting grey market USA MS361s, Stihl has come out with the MS362 here in the states now to replace it for 10% more money. The 362 lists for $670-$710, whereas I can get some of the last new 361s here for $610. The 361 is being end-of-lifed for 2010 US EPA regulations. If you want me to buy and ship you a new 361, there is no sales tax here. Shipping is $110 to Oz for a 15 lb box with $700 shipping insurance. My buy 'n ship and have a beer cost is $25. So that's $745 USD for a brand new, fully insured & delivered-to-Oz 361 power head. Paypal is extra. Paypal charges me a cross-country charge of $31 for me to get $745 from Oz, so you will need to send me $776 USD if you use Paypal. This is for a 361 power head only. No bar, no chain, no tools, no scrench, no booklet. The saw will be shipped as 'saw parts' on the customs form, and valued at $500, insured for $700 (cover cost of product and shipping in case it is lost). This is to avoid any customs searches and potential import tax issues of it being a 'complete saw'. I have sent saws down under before, and I have Ozzy references if needed. If this was a scam, Ekka would have banned me from TW long since! ![]() Last chance for the 361 people. I own two 361s myself, and I love these saws. Some may want the 362, which is fine. I cannot get them here yet, but by the end of the year they will be available. The 362 has an engine similar to the 441 with air-injected strato-scavanged porting. It also has the fancier but harder to pop off air filter system like the 441. It is said that the 362 is even smoother than the 361. The 362 has 0.1 kW (0.2 BHP) more power than the 361 does, but it also weighs 0.3 kg (0.7 lb) more than the 361. The 362 cannot be modded nearly as easy as the 361. They claim that the 362 is 20% more gas efficient than 'previous models' but they do not refer to the 361 in that claim, meaning something is amis. Does it mean that they are 20% better than the old 360? It can be hard to read though all the marketing BS. The emissions also are said to be 50% less than 'previous models', but again they do not specifically compare it to the 361 in any of these claims. Funny that. I bought another 361 today to ship out. The dealer I get them at is down to their last 361 after the one I bought today. He is not sure if he can get more of them or not. I asked them to order more if they can, as I have bought several from him in the last month. They will try... So this may be the very last call for the 361 at these prices ($610 USD). There are others in town at other dealers, but they are more expensive ($640 USD, if they still have them). The AUD is over $0.90 cents US now too. Good exchange rates, mates! |

A Stihl dealer back east I know says that he got a note from his Stihl distributor saying that the 361 is no longer in production at the factory. So that means what is on the Stihl dealers' shelves and at the distributor warehouses is it. Once they are sold that will be it. No more to be had. The 362 is already replacing them. He thinks that there will be a run on 361s like there was on the 440s. I think that the run is already happening. If you are thinking about getting a new 361, now is the time!!! ![]() Today's $1.00 AUD = $0.908 USD |

Yah, on the Oz web site, they claim that the 441 is 20% more fuel efficient than the 440, so my bet is that the 362 is 20% more efficient than the 360, not the 361. I cannot find any specs for the vibration ratings on the 362. The 361 is very good, measured right/left at 2.9/3.6 m/s^2. |

hello all, my 1 year old 361 lost a wrestling match with a good sized pine this fall. i will be needing to purchase new or maybe used parts(if i can find em). since the 361, and others, from stihl are being end of lifed, will that effect the availability and price of parts? very cool site here. i have referenced it quite a few times over the last couple of years. i am more of a reader than a posting kinda fella, but hey, with some practice and probably some help along the way, i just may be able to figure out how to work around in here. this is my third try to get a post in...hopefully i finally got it? cheers... |

Welcome to the forum! Stihl will have parts for the 361 for a long time to come. Similar to the 440, which has been gone for over a year now, you can still get parts for them. They will probably move production of the 361 saws to Brazil, and make spare parts as they make new saws down there. However, the parts from the dealer are pretty expensive. Some of the older saws, like the 020AV have been phased out for parts availability from the Stihl dealers. |

A few 361s are still available here. Verified shipped to Oz costs in USD is: $610 (saw) + $110 (shipping) + $25 (my costs) = $745 + 31 (Paypal) = $776 USD total, shipped insured to your door. I can get the 200T for a good price. Verified shipped to Oz costs in USD is: $650 (saw) + $80 (shipping) + 25 (my costs) = $755 + 31 (Paypal) = $786 USD total, shipped insured to your door. Other Stihl saws available (US $ base price): 192T $330 260 Pro $530 460 $900 310 $430 441 $910 460 R $950 660 $1100 660 R $1150 R models here have 3/4 wrap handles Right now the Oz dollar is up there, at $0.915 USD per 1$ AUD. |

The new MS361s are no longer available here now. End of the line. Can't say I did not warn people. For those of you that bought 361s from me, congrats! I can get the MS362 now for a better price if interested. They are $80 more than the MS361 was. |

Hey Windthrown, A friend of mine just purchased an MS361 off the shelf from a Houston Dealer. He is the one whose 290 burned up on him. When he told me, I called around to several dealers to see if any had them. I found one who was a new ACE hardware location who had just one left. When I picked it up an hour later, the Stihl rep came in and asked if I was the one who wanted the 361/25 b/c. He said every dealer in town called him to see if they could still order one. He doe's not have anymore left and I just purchased the last one in this area. So, now I have one with 20" and one with 25" b/c. Wow, I am really happy. Have to get them tuned properly and get them up and running. I will send a picture of the two of them when I get a little time. Bill |

Cool beans... Nothing like getting the last of a legendary line. I bought the second to the last 440 sold in this state. They were all gone before people realized what had happened. The 441 and 440 overlap was so long that people thought the 440 would be around... until it was not. The 361 phase-out was really fast and here at least there was no overlap. The 310s are going away here now too. I bought and muffler modified another 310 last week for a guy in the Air Force. He picked it up yesterday. He was really impressed with the results. Even though I have a set of 361s, I still like the 310 with the muffler mod. They are so easy to mod, and they really wake up. They also have the best AV in the 1127 line of saws. With the muffler mod they still do not quite cut with a non-modified 361, but is is close. |

I am closing this thread as the new MS361s are pretty much gone from the US shelves now. US production was stopped a while ago. If yah got one, congrats. If not, there are some nice used ones out there (and maybe a few new ones rat-holed away). Or you can get the 362 if you like a tad more weight and have deeper pockets.
