| And here she is: Thankyou Windthrown. I dont quite get what that handle is all about or how it benefits but I'll have to change it out and the big dogs go for little dogs. ![]()

| I'm not sure if that is a 3/4 wrap or a full wrap. Full wrap handles are rare in my parts anyway. 3/4 wraps would be even rarer. I did buy a 372XPW from Bailey's. That one is sitting in the unopened box waiting for a special day. |

| Thats a 3/4 wrap handle. Those are popular in the pnw for dropping large trees where they really need to use both sides of the saw to drop a tree.

| Its a 3/4 wrap (no handle running along the bottom of the saw), but Stihl calls it a full wrap for some reason. For logging they are great, along with the big dogs, for felling and bucking on the ground. For tree work they are just added weight. But that is one of the last 440 saws sold in Oregon (and the US for that matter), and the R model is all they had. Lots of interest stateside in the 3/4 wrap and big dawg kits. Some Stihl shops here ONLY have 3/4 wraps (aka: full wraps) and big dawgs on all their 361 size and up saws. Not many people here (if any) climb with a saw the size of a 440. Not much climbing done in logging, except to cut spar tree tops for cable yarding by high climbers, which is not done that much any more. Most of the pro tree butchers I know use small 30-40cc TH saws when climbing.

| Did anyone ever get any guff for having someone from the States send them a saw?? I just got a pal to send me a 260 (paid about US$650 landed instead of $1250 off the shelf) and someone threatened to shop him to Stihl because apparently dealers rules its all supposed to be face to face sales!! What a loada of crapola!!!

In the US Forest Service SOP for all felling is that "full wrap" handle, with the other "3/4 wrap" just for bucking. It doesn't allow for as close of flush cutting of stumps, but it allow the saw to be used differently, especially able to hold the saw horizontally for the face cut, on the slope for the second kerf of the face cut, and then horizontally on the other side (180 degrees over) for the back cut from the same side of the tree. As well, if a double cut is necessary due to a bar being too short, it can be easier. Agreed, that is extra weight in a tree. Going away from the big dogs, too. I wish I could get the big dog for the MS 361. I tried modifying the larger 440 size dogs, but the bottom spike broke off over time where I had to cut out a very small piece to make it fit the molding on the powerhead of the 361. I've used most of the newer stihl saws, lots of time doing fuel reduction (cutting like mad all day on the ground, felling and bucking) and the new anti-vibe on the MS 192t 200t 361 and 441 is a savior for my wrist tendonitis. For me, a bit heavier on wrists that don't hurt works. Feel fortunate that the vibration doesn't effect you, or at least yet. The loggers up here when they used to use hardbody saws, before anti-vibe generation 1, would get what they called white fingers. The hard bodies vibration destroyed their nerves or something like it. I should feel lucky that the saws are relatively cheap in the US. that's a good realization, even though they're still not pocket change. Thanks for all the work on the site!! | |

| Big dawg and 3/4 wrap kits are available for the 361. It big dawg kit has a larger sprocket cover as well. You can also add a small dawg to the right side of the bar with no modification. As for saw dealers getting flap for selling saws overseas, they (the Aussies and Kiwis) usually use middlemen like me. I bought the saw from a dealer, and shipped it to Ekka. No Stihl dealers involved in this off-shore 'sale.' Some dealers here will send stuff overseas, and I see some dealer sales on Ebay, but it is usually out the back door and not kosher for any Stihl, Dolmar or Husky saw dealers. If a regional distributor finds out about these types of sales, they usually stop supplying saws to the dealer, or raise the prices on them. Same goes with online sales here within the US. Shop sales only. ![]()

| The same with the 372xp, they got rid of that awesome saw and then replaced it with 575xp or whatever it is, I got all worried and thought about those Bailey's catalogs "get em while they last", allmost bought one-then a few months ago I'm in the saw shop and they're back, just with a little chrome XP on the air cleaner. The lady says "oh I guess you guys liked them, so they brought them back". Dont we all wish that happened more often. So maybe all hope is not lost. |
