I'm sure they do it because it makes the chains interchange-able between Husky and Stihl ... both running .050 guage and 3/8 pitch.

I think the 026 runs 0.325 pitch chain though which really screws it up if it's 0.050 guage bar. Lopa, you got 361's now anyway, that 26 wont see a lot of work anymore.

All of my bars are .050 What's the working difference between the two? Is it just the space for the runners to travel with the bar? or is there .063 chain that has different sized running links?

Thickness of the drive link and width of the groove in the bar.

063 being wider than 050.

Okay, so it is for both, but as I asked, what does this translate to?

Why not have them all the same? What's the *working difference* between the two?

Performance wise i cant really say other than assume that the beefier one might hold up to wear & tear better.

My Stihl dealer said US Stihl run it because its the same as what most other brands like macculoch etc run over there meaning chains and bars are more universal in fit.

Hey Ekka,

I found one MS440 in stock after quite a few calls.
It's in Canada.
It's new, has a half wrap handle and comes with a 24" bar and chain for $979.95 (canadian) plus shipping.
It is possible to change out for a full wrap if you prefer, not sure of the cost.
You'd only save about $60 if you don't get the bar & chain with it.

If you're interested I can put in touch with the shop directly.

FYI The Post office estimates 7kgs to Oz at $85.

Well, I will look in eugene next time I am up there. They had 2 440s on the shlef last time I was there (a month ago). No sales tax here in Oregon. Powerheads only for that saw are about $700 USD I think. They may have gone up with the recent US Stihl price hike though. Only saws in the more local shops are 441s. 440s are the king of saws around these parts.

Windthrown, have you got contact details I'd like to secure one.

I could do the deal over the net and have it shipped to you as the "owner" then onto me etc.

These shops are not on the internet. Old style B&M shops. I will call tomorrow and get a price and availability.

I had checked at 2 other shops today, and both sold their last 440's in the last several months.

Sorry Ekka, no-go here. Apparently it IS a good saw, everyone who can find one here snaps them up.

The guy at the one store mentioned that if he had one left in stock, he'd buy it himself.

I got both credit card and Paypal.

Yah, the local shops here had as many as they could get this summer, and they sold them all out pretty fast. They have the 441s in stock, and they are not selling many. I have seen a few used 441s already come up for sale around here (only a few months old). Of course the timber industry here is in the toilet and log prices are down, mills are closing or not buying logs, and well, its all in the dumps.
