Haven't posted in a while...this is just to say thanks for the info I have found here and ask a question about gasket material for sealing the crankcase on a saw--I used Permatex copper high-temp goop on a small Poulan--did I screw up or is there a better material for this? Gaskets were not to be found here. I am impatiently waiting for it to cure and fire it up to see if it fixes the runaway condition it exhibited every time I started it. Thanks again for all the good stuff--I am thinking of porting my next "project" saw!

I don't know if its available in your area but the best product I have found is ThreeBond 1104. Stuff works fantastic for crankcases, cylinders, etc. and never had a problem with it.

Thanks to info here and another site, was able to repair the little Poulan--had an air leak at the crankcase seal. Now runs like a top. Also was able to build a replacement throttle rod for a Mcculloch 610 out of a clothes hanger! Things are lookin' up...
