Okay, so last night I stripped down my Stihl 011. Heard something rattling in the crankcase. Pulled the jug off and found THESE things inside the crankcase. ![]() Are they supposed to be there? Where'd they come from? Second question... Notice in this next picture how the crankshaft hangs on the camshaft. There's no bearing there. is there supposed to be one? or does it just ride on the smooth surface without one? ![]() ![]() I couldnt find anything that mentioned it on the IPL's, but then, I couldnt even find the camshaft on the IPL either. |

yeah that's kinda what i was thinking, but there's nothing else in there... ![]() nothing that those would fit inside. Do I need to check the camshaft bearings or what? I cant figure out where they CAME from. There arent enough of them and no other metal pieces that would have had them situated betweeen the camshaft and the crankshaft, so I'm guessing maybe it's just supposed to be like that, and when the camshaft turns over the circular part of the bottom of the crankshaft just rides on that surface. So should I pull the clutch and the flywheel and check those bearings??? |

Found it.... the plot sickens! ![]() Okay... so there's no official "bearing" between the camshaft and the crankshaft. There are however, 12 bearing rollers. Which are the pieces in the first photo. So the last question I'm left with is: How in the HELL do I get them to stay in place back between the camshaft and crankshaft and get then get the piston back into the head without them falling out???? |

Ahh thanks. Any idea what kinda grease is....safe? for use inside the crankcase? Anything? Axle grease? I'm repairing this saw from a 50' drop it took maybe 7 or 8 months ago. Had to replace the whole rear handle (which *isnt* a solid one-piece with the body of the saw, thankfully). And had to replace the chain tensioning screw. Other than that, I havent had it stripped down very far in quite a while. Took apart the oil pump assembly and found that the foam filter deal was reduced to almost mush, so it's gonna get replaced. Some of the vibe-mounts need to be replaced also. It's not an overly powerfull saw, but I've had it forever and its VERY lightweight. It's excellent as a climbing saw especially on smaller diameter stuff. Only complaint is that the air filter tends to clog up quickly with fine sawdusts. But they clean vary easily and at $4 are cheap to replace. ------------------------------------------------------- This picture isn't MY saw, but it's an 011. Cute little saw. It's kind of a cross between a top handle and a rear handle. I really like it. |

What you might have to do, is put some white grease around the crank shaft, then put your bearings around the crank shaft. For the connecting rod, you will have to heat it up, so it will expand, and you will be able to slide it over the bearings, with ease. What I recommend, is putting the connecting rod in the BBQ, and leave it in there at high heat for about 5 to 10 minutes. Might be a good idea, to put the crankshaft into the freezer, with the bearings attached with the grease. Might contract a bit to also help. Good luck with this Ken. I hope this gives you some ideas. Bruce.

Also going to be listing a running/cutting vintage 041av tonite and listed a monster Homelite 26LCS yesterday for anyone who might be interested.Ed

Oh, and for what its worth if the saw was run with the bearings loose in the crankcase the rod and crank are likely garbage. The rod opening will be elongated. Before putting too much time into it check the big end of the rod with an inside mic or caliper for roundness by measureing in at least 3 different places. Ed

Eh, I prolly shouldnt, on second thought. I've got a job coming up next week but I still owe Holmentree some money and I should really pay that back first. Keep me in mind incase it doesnt sell though. After I make some $$$ I might still be interested in buying it later. In my enthusiasm I tend to keep putting the cart ahead of the horse and I get excited about something but then reason kicks in. lol. We'll see how it goes. |

| LOL, thats ok it could always be worse..... My personal work saws are an 019T, 038Magnum,064,Shindawa pole saw. then in the sale pile the homelite 26LCS,Stihl041av, Craftsman2.1/14 and going to look at 7 more saws in the am, plus 17 parts saws.....Its an addiction for me I guess. How long would it be before you could grab the saw? If we are talking a week or something, i will put it aside for you. Let me know,Ed P.S. you posted some pics for me before on the 064, I need to post after pics also would love to post pics of the Insane Homelite, How do I post the pics?Thanx |

MAN!!!! Don't you hate that, when that happens!!! Pretty sad that the dealer can't even order the right parts, for a person, or have them in stock. I'd be taking in the old ones with you, to show the dealer what is going on. Sorry to hear about your luck. Bruce.
