Default Stihl Workshop Manuals PDF

I'm lookin for a workshop manual for a Stihl 031AV. I need to know the proceedure to do a pressure test to check the crankshaft seals for leakage. Been fighting this saw for 2 weeks now. I have eliminated the carb as the problem since I have access to 2 saws and have swapped parts to troubleshoot it. Won't start most of the time and when it fires it only will run wide open for a short time, then quits. Fuel filter and lines OK, new impulse tube, and good spark, compression good.
My arm is gettin tired of pullin on this thing

ok here is what I would guess fuel line pinched between body and carb?or the carb itself unless you are 100% positive it is not the carb.If you still need to do the pressure test pull the carb and muffler off insert a piece off rubber between the muffler and exhaust port and remount the muffler.you need a block off plate for the intake with a nipple on it for a hose and mighty vac.pressure up to 10 or 12 psi and spray seals and gaskets with soapy water.
It sounds to me as if it is a fuel issue as seals will allow it to start but will run badly and not idle.hope this helps let me know if you need more help.I do not have a service manual for that model sorry.

G'day Kevlar
I would say more of a carb/fuel prob. Double check your fuel line for tiny crack/hole or brittleness.
May have 031 documents hidden in this ....er..."filing cabinet"...
Get back to you mate

In my experience once a saw starts doing that BS I hate it and slowly get rid of it ... often the shop "fixes it" but oddly enough, even after new crankcase seals etc it starts it's BS again a few weeks later.

Also could be the gasket where the head/pot bolts up, that's what it was on one of mine .... eventually found out when I stripped it for parts.
