Default Stihl ms 200t

I have a stihl ms 200t that I need to dismantle. I just need to replace the fuel tank. Any advice or direction in regards to how to do this...and still get all the pieces back to the way they were before the dismantle?

Thanks

I use plastic sandwich baggies for parts. I'll use a little slip of paper in each bag to label what's in it........"rewind bolts", another bag might be "Carb parts", ect. On other things, like say a crankcase, there might be different length bolts holding the case together.... I'll take a piece of cardboard and draw the shape of the case with a marker, poke holes in the cardboard, and stick the bolts in the cardboard. That way they look exactly like they did in the saw.

Since yuor putting a new tank in put new a fuel line and filter in.If you have any wore out gaskets you should relace them but you can also use a product called shelac made by permatex,i use it to replace head gaskets on quads to increase compression.it works great.

get the camera out take pictures for reference for re assembly, its quite a simple job the most awkward bit is the throttle and choke bars where they reattach to the carb, a bit fiddley dont force anything if you get stuck stop and put out a shout someone should be online to help

Have fun with that! I've had the handles on these apert several times and they are a beeartch the first few times till you get the hang of it. Quite complicated how all the linkages hook up. Pay close attention to the worlshop manual and you should be right.

I squashed a section of bar groove on 1 of my 2 brand new ms200's about a month ago. I left it on the work bench because I did not need it. At first I thought it was a kinked chain. A big piece being lifted by a crane hinged over on it.

I tried putting a bar groove cleaning (stock) tool into it by force for a couple of days and it did not work. I then banged a carb adjusting screw driver in just far enough to make the bar groove cleaning tool fall over (like using a wedge) and left it in there for a couple of days. Using the bar groove cleaner tool in the groove while banging the carb screwdriver.. kept me from forcing it too far open.

Voila, that was the trick and I didn't have to buy a new bar.

Anybody got any tricks for straightening a slightly bent bar? Obviously you can see the bend by laying it on a perfectly flat surface like a glass pane.

A good screwdriver, like a heavy craftsman, slide it into the groove part that isn't bent and tap it with a hammer through the bent part, opens it back up to factory width, only takes about 15 minutes.

I use those lightweight 14" bars, they tend to flex, never bent one ... they might bust before they bend or something I dont know.

I used to have a 20" 0.325" guage bar on a Stihl ms390, yeah one of those crap saws, anyway that used to get bent/twisted bars a lot ... I'd say something with the plastic chasis construction. Traded that junk anyway.

I used to belt it with a 2lb hammer (in the middle not the groove) over a round steel rod to try to get them straight. For the twist it was tough, nose in the vice and screw driver in the bolt end and try to twist it.

Funny though, my other saws never done that, and I didn't drop the saw either. Just something with that saw/chain/bar combo.

My problems historically have been with more muscle than brains gm's that pull on the power head (when stuck) and because the bar doesn't come out of the middle, when they yank on the powerhead it pulls sideways on the bar. Mostly on the mid size saws. They never touch my ms200's (won't even let them start them) and my biggest saws.

Okay, put the bar down to where the bar should arch.[at this point the bar should be on a level surface].Put a cidner block on it and let it go for say 48 hours.Or do what Dave said and just buy a new one.
