Default stihl 32 av electrical problem

i am working on a stihl 032av chainsaw... it runs but acts like it has an electrical miss. i am attempting to pull flywheel to check the points (not sure saw has them), but not having any luck removing flywheel with a puller.. can anybody advise if there are actually points on this model or any suggestions where else i might look ?

if the saw is an 032 av. yes it has points. if it is an 032 ave. it has a electronic coil. to get the flywheel off i dont use a puller.[i've broken off fins that way.] i take the nut and unscrew it so it is flush with the end of the crank. have some one hold the saw and hit the nut with a hammer. or take the nut off and use a punch on the end of the crank. with a sharp blow, the fly wheel pops right off.

Check the condition of the kill switch wire too. The insulater material on the wire gets old and crumbles off on some of the older stihls.

Replace points with these modules.

The cam to open and close the points is on the reverse of the flywheel. You can try to set them through trial and error by watching the keyway along with the rotation of the crank. You might as well give it a try since you already bought the points and condensor. Either that or look around for an older small engine shop that will have the tools.

Here is some info from Al Smith at chainsaw collectors. I dont want to get into trouble posting links so I will just quote it.

"Fire at 2.3 MM or 90 thou ahead of top dead center, points set at 35 thou"

Its one of 3 things.

1. grounding out

2.bad plug.

3.incorrect gap at the flywheel.

could be your coil also. they have been known to run until they heat up. i have never tried those ignition modules. but i wanted to. every time i get a saw in with points\condenser and no spark. i change the coil to an electronic one because i was afraid the coil was bad. i didn't want to buy a module and find out the coil was junk. there is no way to test it unless you put it on another running 032. i've never owned a 032 but have worked on many 050's which have points. i will buy a 051,075,or 076 coil for it because there electronic. maybe a 032ave coil will work? its electronic. but you may need to research that before you buy one.
