I have a 038 Magnum chainsaw that became unoperable this past weekend. After taking off the air filter, it appears that the throttle rod may have detatched from the carb. You can see it move when you pull the trigger, but the rod goes up under a fuel line to the carb. How does one repair this? Any steps would be appreciated. Does anyone have a service manual for this saw? Thanks. |

I have the 028/038 workshop manual in pdf form. If you want a copy send me your email address via private message and I will send it on to you. Really shouldnt be that difficult of repair. Drain the gas before you pull the fuel line off the carb. Remove the air filter assembly. Remove the hold down nuts for the carb and pull it out of the way so that you can see the linkage. The end of the rod may have broken off? If none of the throttle rod is missing, a slight bend at the carb end will keep the vibration from helping it to pop off again. Good luck, Sharkey |

sharkey, Followed your directions and everything is working great! I would still like to get a copy of the service manual, but since I'm new, I can't use the messaging feature yet. When it's available, I'll send you my email address. Thanks again! |

Hi Walsib, Glad its working out. I will try to send you my email address and we will go from there. When you send that email just put stihl 038 in the subject line so I know what were talking about. |

| I'm new to the site as well and was wondering if you still have the .PDF service manual for the stihl 038? I recently acquired one that needs some attention and would like to have the manual for reference. Looks like I can not send you a PM as of yet....

I have an 038 AV Super that I can just barely pull over. Seams like lots of compression, but other things may be issue also. Had the dealer tell me that my piston and cylinder were scored and have to replace both... To the tune of $350! Thought I would do the work myself... The manual would make things a bit easier. Thanks | |
