Default Stihl 025 Chain Saw

Hello everyone

I have this Stihl 0025 chain saw Mod # 311Y
I completely cleaned the saw last year while rebuilding the carburetor, tried to run it and wouldn't start. So after a few months of a rebuilt carburetor and new fuel and new plug,it only starts then shuts down after a few seconds of running one time I did manage to keep it running for a little longer rev it up and when I let it idle down it shut off. When it shuts down it wont start even with carburetor cleaner sprayed in the throat just a little. Seems like it gets flooded, and wont start till its cool. I have real good spark I know that when a coil gets hot it will shut down due to the coil breaking down. The reason I am ruling out the coil is because it doesn't even get a chance to get hot.

Now get this I did a compression test on it and got 60 PSI I thought that was low I can't find a compression release. Not sure on this mod if there is one.I took about a 1/4 drop of oil and put it in the cylinder then did another compression test, this time I got 160 PSI even after a few hours it still was at the 160 PSI.Like i said If it sits all night I can get it to start after i choke it i get pop like it tried to start, then i take it off choke it will start up and shut down,I even loosened the fuel cap. I noticed that on the fuel tank there is a small tube that looks like it has some adjustment screws,What are those for?

Thanks for your help in advance sorry this was so winded.

Check to see if you damaged the rubber inlet manifold where the hose clamp fits when you re-built the carb.

Is the fuel tank breather blocked? My mate had similar problem and that was cause.

I don't think i damaged the rubber inlet manifold,i will look at that to see.The fuel tank breather is a one way tube as I took it out and blew in to it and it did not see any restrictions. Also I am missing the clip for the shut off switch not the one on the choke arm the one that the ground wire gets hooked to,If anyone has one 4 sale or knows where i can get one I would be grateful.

Thanks GB...

Evening, did you reset the carby to default settings after the rebuild?? If not, FYI I have listed my settings below. If you rebuilt the carby yourself I would recheck your work to a factory workshop manual, Did you use original parts including gaskets? Was the issue there before the clean and carb rebuild? What other work on the saw did you do since the it ran correctly?

Check the muffler and spark arrester in the muffler (or the muffler and baffles itself if the arrestor has been removed), mud wasps over here love nesting in the deflector on 2 strokes that don't see that much action. If in the past the saw has been running rich then the arrestor could be fouled.

"My baseline tuning, turn the "H" screw clockwise until it stops , then counterclockwise no more than a 3/4 turn with a small flathead screwdriver. Turn the "L" screw clockwise until it stops. Then turn it counterclockwise 1/4 turn. For me fine tuning is done under load replicating working conditions (in a log). Idle is last and easy, no chain roll with brake off."

Hope you get it sorted.

Tony

Thanks Tony The saw was not starting at all i was getting no fuel and so I rebuilt the carb according to the carb specs with a brand new rebuild kit. I already took off the exhaust that was clean.I installed 2 new plugs the one that the manufacture has listed. It will start then shut down then like I said it is like it is flooded,I even sprayed carb cleaner and nothing usually that will give most equipment a pop. I will try your settings as I know the needle setting are very sensitive on this saw. I will keep you informed mate!
