Default Simple Tricks

Ok here is where you can share your secret discoveries that make your life easier when working on saws or cutting down trees.

Just figured this first one out....

I just discovered this one today.

You know that Navel Jelly stuff? It contains Phosphoric Acid. Its a form of hydrochloric acid, which happens to be the main ingredient of Muriatic Acid.

Where is all this Heading???

Sticky Acid Man!

Mix 6 onces Navel Jelly to 3 onces muriatic acid. or 2 to 1. Stir...stir...stir...SHAKE VIOLENTLY!!! RUN!!!!!

No, it will not explode. But it stick to the sides of a chrome impregnated cylinder with build up of a heated piston. Brush the stuff only where you want it. And it will not drip out like straight Muriatic acid will. Nor will it drip down the ports or into the transfers.

How did I discover this? At work trying to remove calcium deposits from the sides of stainless steel. Make sure you wear safety goggles when you do anything with acid... don't ask how I know this.....

Scott.

Here is another one...

I have stopped using easy outs, too much work with drilling and heating blah blah blah....

Broken stud at or below the surface?
1. Lay a nut on top of the stud.
2. Mig weld the nut through the hole to the stud.
3. let cool.
4. Remove with wrench.

Ugh, how do you live without a welder!

I use this a whole lot when a steel stud breaks off in an aluminum block. Its great for places you can not get a drill into. Also it gets the heat only where you need it.

Yeah that second one really is cool!

I've got a little 110V buzzbox that I get TONS of use out of. I'll keep that one in mind since I've been there before and found myself going now what???

Good solution

scott, and even better--lay down a flat washer that fits snug over the broken stud---weld it, then weld the nut on--the washer bites on the outside surface of the stud--and the nut bites the washer---have a larger area for the thing to grab on----

better sharpens.

before you sharpen run ur saw thru something dry if possible(dead wood is best). makes files last longer, and allows them to be more aggressive when pushing.

after sharpening back bar a small hard piece of wood to remove the burr from the teeth before they can get caught up in the wood and slightly dull the tooth behind it.

it will give ur chain an extra 5 % on the sharpness and keep its edge just a little longer.
