Default SH 85 Blower

Howdy,

I have a Stihl Chainsaw and also just bought an Sh85 blower 2nd hand. The trottle is stuck and I like to take it apart and check out what going on.

However, as many of you would have probablty experienced your self at one time or another, if you don't know how something is put together its a bit of a gamble because you either break somthing or you pull some housing off and a dozen spring jump at you which you never going to out together again without a workshop manual.

Cutting a long story short, does anybody know where I can download workshop manuals for STIHL products.

By the way I have found the service manual at STIHL – The Number One Selling Brand of Chain Saws – Outdoor Power Tools - Locate an Independent STIHL Dealer but I need the workshop manual.

Many thanks

G'day mate, we don't get that model here, but it looks very similar to my old 1st generation BG85. The main difference seems to be that yours has the blow tube attached more like the newer BG86.

The 1st gen BG85 throttle continually sticks! this is because unlike the 2nd gen BG85, it has a throttle cable. The newer model has linkages instead. The cable outer allows moisture inside & corrosion of the inner cable causes it to stick to the outer part of the cable.

It is VERY easy to get the cable out; just remove the orange cover containing the zip starter & then the smaller part of the handle above it. You will see the cable running down the handle to the carb (if the SH85 has a cable that is). Just remove it & soak it in a container of very thin oil, or try to squirt inox or something similar into the cable from both ends.

Keep the blower out of the rain & NEVER wash it in water.

Cheers,

Kevin.........

Kevin,

thanks for your reply, it gave me the confidence to take it apart and fix it. Thankfully no springs jumped at me at any time

Just in case you are interested it wasn't the cable as my model already has linkage. It was rust in the bushes.

The orange trottle has a metal pin that makes it rotate in the plastic housing. The pins started to rust and expand and that made it stiff and impossible for spring to overcome. A bit of sandpaper and oil, and it moves like new.

Thanks again
Cheers
