Congrats on the Rebuild. It is a satisfying feeling to take something like a Chain Saw, and get it back to life again. I recently did an 044, and an 034 and an 024.
The 044 had a seized Piston, so I put in a New Cylinder and Piston Kit, Main Bearings, Gasket Kit, Carburetor Repair Kit, Carburetor Boot, and Fuel Line, and I even did a Muffler Modification to it.
The 044 needed a New Piston Ring Kit, and a Cylinder Gasket, and it was good to go, after I did a Muffler Modification to it as well.
The 024, had an Oil Leak, and to determine where it was coming from, I had to tear it down to the Crank Case, and I left the Cylinder intact. I cleaned the Chain Saw all up, filled the Oil Tank with Var sol, and no leak. I reassembled the Chain Saw, filled the Oil Tank with Bar oil, once the Var sol was drained out of it, and I found the Oil Leak. It was the Seal around the Oil Cap, instead of the Crank Case Gasket, like I was told by my Local Sthil Dealer. Quick and Cheap fix for me. I got all three Chain Saws for $250.00, plus the Parts
Bruce.
