ground off the casting marks on the muffler and gave it a coat of special heat proof paint,i like the effect. will be doing a few mods to the muffler thay are very restrictive..there is free power to be had quite easily....

Hi wes ,yes its hard to get a paint to match the off white grey of stihl. I used a paint out of the can. its Motospray Quick dry super enamel gloss white.you can get it in most auto stores ..its the best match i could find without having to get paint mixed up for a spray gun.

just a few tips when spraing out of a can, only paint on a nice day sunny is better, fill your sink up with about 3in of hot water out of the tap (not boiling water!)put the can in the sink for a few minutes to warm the paint, it helps the paint to atomize when spraying..build your coats up slow you will get runs doing heavy coats..anyways hope that helps cheers Chris.

getting a good paint job is in the prep of parts, getting it smooth takes time. i might use paint stripper next time..(a tip) some bits you dont want painted and are too hard of a shape to get masking tape over, use blue tack! i used a car cut and polish on the handle but lots of sanding with wet and dry. its not easy but worth it. mine looks as good as a new 1...google restoring old plastic motor bike tanks..there is a few ways of doing it. some use a razor blade to get most of the old crappy plastic off before sanding....

Very nice work there mate, just wondering does the 088 have a rev limiter coil like the 880s.
I have a 880 with rev limiter coil and its a pane in the ass to tune nice.I thing they put then on the 880s because of the warranty claims coming in from bent cranks, when held wide open for periods of time.

Cheers
Andrew

ive had the 088 going, revs nice and smooth (crisp). it does hit the limiter out of the cut but cutting no.pulls nice and hard, with the few mods ive done it has made a better saw of the 088..whether the 880 has a lower rev limiter i cant say without a tacho, but i do have both saws. will do some side by side comparison, i know the 880 does feel abit doughy compared to the 088..i use a 660 every day and same thing to the older 066 seems a little doughy...anyways in years and years of logging and over ten 88's my father and myself have never had a 88 fail engine wise....
