GDay all, Is anyone aware of a problem with the husky 346xp between the carby and the block? I have a 2004 and a 2008 346 and both have suffered from the same problem. The rubber boot between the carby and the block leaks/splits and the saw wont reach full revs. I know to other guys who have had the same problems I have never used the E10 fuel or the premium fuels and only use husky 2 stroke oil. Cheers |

There was a recall on the plastic clamp on the intakes, not the intake themselves. If you have a metal intake clamp you are updated. |

Thanks C4F, The newer 346 has the metal band, The older had the plastic. It seems like the rubber boot develops cracks about midway between the carby and the block. I havnt tried to replace it yet (parts are on order) but it seems like the cylinder will need to come off to get the boot off. |

Odd problem that I have never heard of before. I have been very active reading on internet saw forums since 2003, and posting from late 2004 (have more than 27000 posts on one site). I would have heard of it before, if it was anything but a very rare occurance........ The old plastic clamps caused some issues though - enough to be replaced by metal ones on newer saws. |

None of my tafe teachers have heard of the problem either. I have asked around some of the local shops since i posted the first message and no one else seems to have this problem. Just in case is makes any difference i didnt describe the reving very well. The saw tends to idle when cold but at full throttle the revs hunt up and down sort of like it was intermittently starving of fuel. The change in revs was to fast for my tacho but i think it was around 5000 to 6500 rpm. It used to 4cycle about 13300rpm. It also has slow pickup from the time you press the trigger until it tries to rev out. It runs ok at about 2/3 throttle. Onces its warm it wont idle at all. The only way to get it started is to hold the throttle about 50%. Ive got the parts today and started to work on the older unit but it didnt relise i would have to removed the cylinder head to remove the diapham. Once i get some gasket paper ill give it another go. |

Doh, just remebered one more thing. Im not full time in the game. Sometimes my saw will sit for 2 or 3 weeks with no action. I dont drain fuel or oil etc when i store them

Just make sure that the saws are not used any more before they are fixed, unless you want to lean seize the engines..... |

I agree with S/T. Ive read about the clamp issue on the 357 but not on the 346.

For you guys that didnt know about the recall a couple years back. Service Bulletin for 357XP, 359, 353, 346XP This service bulletin is not new. I thought that there might be some out there who were not aware of it so here it is. If your saw has a black plastic clamp around the intake right next to the cylinder it is applicable to it. If the clamp is of steel construction then you should be ok. B0600023 SERVICE *537 43 88-01* *compl 537 25 13-02 English 1 (1) SB, 357 XP, 359, 353, 346 XP, Partition wall and clamp for intake system, 2006-03 The existing intake system on 357XP, 359,353 and 346XP currently consists of an integrated plastic clamp in the partition wall. As the clamp is made of plastic, there is a risk of deformation. This results in impaired clamping force against the cylinder, which in turn can result in leakage in the intake system. To prevent this from occurring, we have now introduced a metal clamp and a new partition wall. The new partition wall is made up of polyamide with 30 % fibre glass. The new clamp is a hardened steel clamp. The new material and the design of the clamp reduce the risk of deformation and the subsequent risk of leakage. Full replaceability prevails. Introduced from serial number: 357XP 061100201 359 061100001 353 061100001 346XP 061100001 New part no. Description Excl. part. no. Remark 537 25 13-02 Partition wall, intake, complete New spare part 537 43 88-01 Clamp, intake New spare part Spare part, partition wall, part number 537 25 13-01, has been discontinued and is replaced by part number 537 25 13-02. |

I got the older 346 going. What a learning curve. I replaced diaphram, carby, metal strap on diaphram, fuel lines, fuel filter and she still had the same problems ie idles but splutters at full revs. The problem ended up being a buggered spark. Initially i thought the lead but it ended up being the coil near the flywheel. I replaced it with another unit and instant sucess |
