Default In Regards to Chain Saw Chaps

I found this on You Tube,
,and I thought that I should post it here, along with a question. How long should a person wait till the change into a new pair of chain saw chaps? I bought mine a year ago, and they don't have any tears, or rips in them yet, so I was wondering how often you guys wait to renew your pair. Thanks. Bruce.

Generally if they have rips or tears they get thrown away, maybe 2 years as a guide.

There cheap insurance and saved me twice from smaller cuts.

Up until a year ago, I didn't give them much thought, till I had a very very close call. Since I have injured my back, my left knee gives out on me, without warning. I just finished sawing through a limb, when whammy, it gave out on me, and as I went down, my knee came with in less than a 1/2 inch from hitting the spinning chain. The bar was closest to that knee, while I was cutting the limb, so I went and bought myself a pair the next days. I'm learning as I go here.
In the video, they show what could happen to a pair of chaps that are 10 years old, so they probably have done some more modifications to them since then. Thanks for the reply. Bruce.

The problem that I would find with chain saw pants, is that this time of year I wear coveralls over my other clothes, and once it gets colder, I'll be wearing insulated coveralls, so the pants won't work too good for me, because I wont be able to get them to fit over the top, so I'll have to stick with the chaps. Bruce.

When I'm cutting all day in the bush I wear safety pants with suspenders, I like the waist band one size too big to allow movement and heat loss on warm days. Put the wool one piece undies on underneath for the cold.

But doing residential tree work I wear chaps, the longest ones I can get. My clothes stay clean and I can walk into a restaurant and don't have to worry about the waitress trying to avoid me. Sames goes for the customer, it sure helps to be stink free when trying to secure a job when doing the estimate.
When long nylon threads keep pulling out through a rip while working its time to replace the chaps. In my avatar picture to the left on this post I'm wearing Stihl safety pants.
Willard.

I could never wear those long johns, or wool undies. Even the wool socks I could never stand to wear either. They would drive me nuts with itch.
I like wearing my chaps. They are Stihl chaps.
When I was skidding out the tree tops out of the bush last winter, and this spring, they helped me keeping my coveralls dry, and out of the mud.
I'd toss them into the washing machine, to wash, and hang them up on the close line in the basement under the register in the celling, and they would be dry by morning to put back on again, and back into the bush. Bruce

I know im sorry too but the image i got was just well erem rocky horror ish.
Bruce i used to use a very thin pair of socks and wool ones over the top i found that stopped the itch, and the new lycra thermals are unbelievably comfy they are like a second skin but keep the warmth in not that i need them now today is 30 deg and yesterday was 37 deg,

I'd be interested in that idea, scrap the cloths, scrap the chaps, make my chain saws into shelf queens, and watch videos on you tube, and Tree World, of someone else do all the cutting of fire wood, but, I don't have that luxirie, of being in the warmer climate.
Wearing chain saw pants under coveralls, I'd be more scared of the chain digging into the coveralls, and pulling more pressure on the pants, once they get caught up in the chain.
I don't mind the chaps. I know that they are a tad hotter than pants in the summer, from what I have been told by others, but for working in the bush in the winter, especially kneeling down into the snow, to hook up a chain around the butts of tree tops, to skid them out of the bush, keeps the pant legs of the coveralls dry.
I've never looked into the price of the pants, but when the crew logged our bush, two years ago this February, the guy that did the felling had them on every day, and that is when I first knew of anything like that existed.
I was wondering what to look for when it comes time to replace the chaps, and my questions have been answered. Thanks to everyone who posted to this thread. Bruce.

Good one Galbee. You know when I wrote that post I was going to say "braces" , honest, because braces is a Canadian term too, but seeing theres alot of Americans and others on here I thought suspenders would do. I had no idea "suspenders" meant women's "garters" in the UK.

Now if I had a ground-woman with "suspenders" and legs like that, every man [maybe some women] on this site would be jealous.
I would have to go to all the trouble to find steel toe high heel shoes for her. and make sure those stockings are special "nano" chainsaw resistant. But it would be worth it eh guys?

Willard.

Pretty sure if we had groundies that looked like that, and wore that on a regular basis, we'd have a lot more workplace accidents. Not that I'd mind. I could stand to take a saw or two too be able to look at that all day.
