A simple question for the older guy's that might know. During WW2 contracts were give to saw companies for the war effort. WHO PAINTED THOSE SAWS????? THE MANUFACTURE LIKE Remington..DISSTON....or the ARMY???? remember that those color have proprietary rights. I know that Stihl was European made but the question remains the same ...USA company like Remington and others were part of the game too. DID THE ARMY PAINTED THEM GREEN OR DID THE SAW MAKER adjusted their assembly line for a specific contract....point being that the serial numbers could be tracked down to some amount of saws for instance serial 1234 to 1745 would be painted "army green" What do you think???????????? Was told also that some of the saws were made out of a military contract and could include the painting of the saw and those contract were individually different from each other ...... but cannot confirm? So for historical purpuse tracking any serial numbers would need lots of research with corps of engineers, veterans and military museums curators......chances is that i will never find out... ![]() Alain, |
