I've heard from my local saw shop that Stihl are reworking the 660 and 460. Apparently the decision is based on emmissions but the whole saw is supposed to get changed, anyone out there hear any news like that?

If it's anything like the other saws all that happens is they get 1/2kg heavier for the same power. Buy up the old saws before you cannot get them.

I have not heard anything on the 660,but the new 461 will be available here in the states april/may. 251,271,291 are already available here. The 291 seems to be a step forward, pretty nice saw,not sure on the other 2. 461 is to be a 441 w/76-80cc,and will most likely be a little heavier.i would bet stihl will be careful not to mess w/the 660 too much, til the have to.

Yep. Just like the MS201T is now over 9lbs coming out this year. Better get your 200T's while you can. |

well other than the mounts taking a little more of the vibration I agree it would be foolish to mess with the saw, I guess we'll all have to wait and see, if I hear any more I'll be sure to pass it on

If the replacement is going to be heavier I'll need to get another 200T, what backward move if it's heavier, more tennis elbow! ![]()

Bit more HP but the weight, Stihl are really going the wrong way here. I'll need to buy another then.

It's almost the same weight as the Shindaiwa 357 which did give me my tennis elbow 10 years ago. ![]() The power different is negligible, 10% and likely gain that by taking the screen out of the muffler anyway. Backward move IMHO.

Maybe they just want to make saws heavier to make more twiggy people tougher. |

pics of the 461 already on the net,and it will be available in may. 661 should be here by fall. it appears that the core of the saw is the same. the 461 only has 9 different parts from the 460,and 3 of those are the filter/covers. i would think it will be the same saw with a strato top end and stainless muffler. if they improve filtration and give them a little more power, they should be pretty nice saws. also the 440 will return for a 1 year run in its old form. this is exciting stuff for stihl guys.

Talked to my dealer. He said that the 440,460,660,880 are here to stay for now. Everything else is going strato, not sure about top handles as the size restraints of the strato engine design. I think stotos are a joke. |

I haven't brought a newer saw in the forest for 20 years. They just don't make em like they use to and a good reason to buy an old saw. My runners are 1985-1989 60cc and up. If I can't adjust the carb old style...give it to my neighbor |

Yeah, And what about those catalytic converter mufflers? The ones I have seen on other brands of saws are welded up tight and mighty tough to modify, to regain the performance. And then there's those awesome non-adjustable carbs, too. But it's okay, the EPA is just trying to help us.....
