My friend and I compete with each over who has the best. He just bought a ms290. So I am looking for a Husky that will out preform his new saw. Any advice you have to offer would be great. |

I wouldn't worry Newbie, the 290 is the dog of all Stihl saws IMO, gutless wonder. Here's the comparison, cc's to cc's same so not getting bigger engines. MS 290 Chain Saw - Stihl Incorporated United States - Products - Manufacturing and Selling The World's Number One Chain Saw Husqvarna Outdoor Power Equipment - Chain Saws - 357XP The Husky 357XP will eat it alive.

Mate I'm a stihl guy but have to admit the 290 is shyte. Pay the extra and go 361. She'll last longer and you wont go back. |

Thanks guys. We have had a lot of storm damage here so we are trying to get our foot in the door so to speak. When we are just cutting firewood we cut a lot of Oak and Hickory. so again any advice you have in the way of tree service would be very help full.

| What would yu say is the maximum diameter wood?its hard to recomend a saw with knowing that.for a smaller saw a 359,357 are good.for a bigger one go 372,385.

36" is about the biggest we have cut. Most of it has been in the 18"-26" range. The ice here is doing a lot of damage.

| A new Stihl MS361 with a 24 inch bar and chain would be about $600. You can dance around the 290 with it. But get it now, supposedly they are raising the prices in January.

After reading replies, I realized you may have doubts about what they all wrote - even Ekka... But this one Husky here, is the one I want, and it would eliminate any doubt... Husqvarna 3120XP Chain Saw Includes 3 Chains Total, Hat, & T-Shirt "Most Powerful Chain Saw" - 3120XP And for it's size, the decibels is actually quite low for a good size chainsaw. The few extra pounds are offset by how it's weight does the work for you on the down stroke. |

are you looking for a saw that fits your needs? Are you looking for a husky that fits your needs? Are you looking for a husky that will out cut your friend's stihl so you can one-up him? I agree with another reply that a MS 361 is really a good saw. |

The MS361 will surely do better than the 357xp in larger wood - but this sounds like at least 372xp territory..... ![]() ...and forget your US prices, they are way lower than anywhere else, that I know of....... | |

hey newbie. ive got a 357 xp. it rocks. ive been all over the north eastern US climbing and cutting and i have yet to come across a tree that the 357 or the 365 husky doesnt suppy the power to slice and dice with ease. they are big enough to fell with and compact enough to climb with if need be. another good saw is the 346 xp. around here its about 450 dallars but well worth the money. thats the saw i climb with. good luck what part of us are you from?

Seeing as how Husky's might be in limbo with internet sales... Get a 361~!!!! I got my 361 back in December and the thing is Great!! Love it so far, it just chews right through stuff. Having 25" and 18" bars is a great combo for it. It'd certainly put a 290 to shame... not that that's hard to do, from what I understand. But besides one-up'ing... you'd have an excellent saw. |
