Hello everyone, I am looking for someone who can help me cut apart a pinball machine for a new cable show which will be broadcast in primetime this fall. We are looking for an impressive opening cut! I was initially came to this forum for the predator chainsaw but was curious if there are any other modified chainsaws out there. It would be best if the saw was located in New England, as the shoot will be here. Send me a pm, or ask a question in the thread and I will get back to you asap. Thanks, Brendan |

Good luck with that. I suppose a carbide chain would hold up long enough for a piped hotsaw to make it through a metallic pinball machine. I'm friends with Rotax Robert, who runs the Predator, and several of the other unlimited hotsaws fellas. But they are all west coast based.

You would have to remove all the contactors, glass and metal rails before anyone would let a good saw touch that thing. Something like half prop, half real pinball machine would work.

Get a ICS concrete chainsaw chain [Twin Max diamond chain] this chain can cut through 3/4" re-bar. Make a loop of this chain to fit a 60" bar on a Stihl 090 and look out pinball machine, should make a very impressive shoot.

Gary sold the Termite, a V8 Buick engine chainsaw up in Washington state. That is still in the PNW someplace. Romeo builds big bike saws in New Mexico. For chainsawing a pinball machine, that size saw would scale better. Heck, I could cut a pinball machine in half with my 044. My brothers have both owned a lot of pinball machines. They are just particle board boxes with a hollow center. You could slot in lexan in place of the top glass, and paint on metal looking rails on the sides made of wood. I used to work on a lot of sets in Hollywood when I was at university in San Diego. My old roomate from Northern Califronia was and still is an art director in LA and I used to work for him doing commercials and rock videos. We used to do this kind of stuff there.

Good advice windthrown. I think we will have to prep it and work a little tv magic. I think it will cut fairly easy though... Quote:

Just wanted to thank everyone for your ideas and for contacting me. This will be a really cool shoot. I will be out of town for a few days but will be back next Wed. I will check my email, blattrell@powderhouse.net. If you have a saw that could cut this pinball machine, or if you can think of an even cooler way to cut it give me a shout or post on this board. Thanks Again! |

I have a bike saw too that I built myself over 25 years ago. Yamaha YZ 125 liquid cooled, she pushs close to 50 HP with its 42 mm carb. 15 years ago I used it in a TV documentary along with my other saws..... back in my golden years haha. Willard Holmen | |

| When I read this post a week ago I thought you meant for blattrell to post his pinball cutting TV skit. But I now think you meant me posting "my TV skit". Well its going to take some work because my time of fame from 1995, haha, is still on VCR tape. I'm first going to have to convert it over to DVD and edit out all the TV commercials etc. I have already talked to Therrin about it and he may post it on You Tube for me. You have to give me some slack for I only learned to turn a computer on a few years ago. I'm presently in the middle of a large land clearing contract and spare time is limited, plus I have many other jobs backed up . Sounds like a good winter off season project. But I'll get it done I promise you. Something I've been excited about doing for some time now. Willard H. |

Could you afford to pay his time off work, plus compensation he'd want, to drive the Predator cross country? He'd also have to bring his cutting partner. Plus, he has a few more shows he does, during the summer log show season. If so, respond, and I'll get him in touch with ya... There are a few easterner's with one man rotax saws, which would be well suited for your gig.....

Yes sir. We will do whatever we can with the limitation of our budget to get Robert and the Predator out here. I really want this saw to be in the premier episode of this show! If you can put me in touch with him I would greatly appreciate it. We are shooting this next weekend. Additionally, if there are some guys on the east coast I would like to talk with them as well. Shoot me an email, blattrell@powderhouse.net or call (617) 629-2200 x 237 Thanks! |

Anyone on the east coast have a motorcycle engine powered saw? I would really like to incorporate any of these "extreme" chainsaws into our show.

Don't overlook his #1 competitor the Binford V8 ChainSaw, could be a good back up plan if he cant show.

I'd suggest remove the metal from the pinball machine where the saw will cut and fill the insides with solid wood like a big squared timber . If I remember correctly a pinball machine is roughly 24 inches wide. My old buddy Gary Walrath [Iron Horse sawman] from West Linn Oregon had a 292 Thunder Jet snowmoble engine on a 42 inch bar . This was his 1st hotsaw which he broke world records in the one cut competitions in the early 1980s in the big Douglas fir logs. The impressive thing about this saw was its chain rotated and cut backwards sending sawdust flying out 100 feet from the log. This would look very impressive on a photo shoot through a pinball machine. ![]() |
