Default Need help with Shindaiwa 757 Muffler mod and other goodies?

Ok so I just picked up a Shindaiwa 757 with about 45 minutes on it for $275 from my local saw shop. Yeah cheap I know...they like me haha. Anyway, who here has a 757 and has done a muffler mod and wouldn't mind posting pics and helping me perform this mod on my red beast? Any other mods you have done to your 757's would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks guys!

I've noticed replies seem kind of hard to come by and just wanted to encourage you, as well as get our post counts up there....unfortunately, i don't know anything about modding your Shindaiwa. Good luck and hopefully someone knowledgeable will be along to help you!

I see what you mean. You are the only person to reply. I guess chainsaws just aren't that "big" anymore. It sucks considering I have many questions about different things and much more to learn and was hoping to gain some knowledge from people on here.

Ok here goes i know nothing about Shindaiwa's but moding it the same as a stihl husky or any two stroke should work, you need to look at an engine as a air pump, thats all an engine does is pump air. so u need to get more air in and out!and with the increase in air flow in and out of the saw you need more fuel too easy! with most saw's the exhaust is a good place to start most of the time they are very restrictive to meet noise and pollution crap. if you open up the exhaust do it little by little.the stock carbie needs to have H and L screws if not forget it..now the stock carbie can most of the time flow enough fuel to keep up to an exhaust mod but thats about all..when they make a race saw with porting, pipes and going all out, thay need a way bigger carbie and fitting them can be a pain in the ass....anyways hope that helps good luck!

I own a couple of 757's but alas, I don't get to put much time on them.

Unfortunately I'm not real mechanically inclined so I run my saws stock.

Have you given it a good run without a muffler mod yet? You might be pleasantly suprised.

By the way, you got a heck of a deal on that saw. I paid $500 for one with that amount of run time. I got one that had more hours off craigslist for
$175.

Sorry I can't help you out, but I'm interested in how things work out for you.

What are you planning on running for a bar and chain?

I'm probably going to run a Windsor or an Oregon reduced weight 28" & 32". More than likely I'll stay with the 72CJ chain. I love the way it cuts.

So...

If you open up the muffler, and install a second base gasket, it will lower compression so you can run the current day crap fuels. It will speed up the port timing without altering the ports mechanically. This will decrease the cylinder temperatures and allow use of one heat range hotter spark plug and allow the effective use of the cheap fuel available nowadays. Also the best speed trick there is is a sharp chain, if you are cutting clean wood, use chisel tooth, if it is dirty wood, use semi chisel or chipper, depending upon conditions. Note that it is easier to keep a chain sharp than have to re-work a bludgeoned one. The 757 has plenty of torque so longer bars aren't a problem. I prefer a 28" bar on most of the saws I run that size, because I don't like to bend over. An 8 pin sprocket will speed up the chain speed as well. Bar size in my opinion is a matter of height(reach) similar to fitting a baseball bat and the available horsepower of the saw. Also, long bars and larger saws increase the likelihood of kickback, be careful...split personalities are not the desired result
Hope this helps
