Default MS290 vs MS250

Hi all, My name is John and I am new to this tread, and I am new to the saw world, my last saw was a Poulan 18" Wild Thing, and I am getting ready to order my first Stihl saw, I hear they are the best so why not, my Daughter works for Ace Hardware and I can get a good deal on one. My concern is I was looking at th MS290 Farm Boss so I was at the store today checking it out and I think it is going to be to heavy for me for a long period of time so I am going to order the MS250 C almost 3 pounds lighter. Here is my concern the MS290 is 56.5cc and the MS250 is 45.4cc should this be a concern??? I hear that the 250 can out cut the 290 because the chain speed is faster. is this true??
any thoughts???
The main use for the saw will be cutting trees for firewood for my fireplace at home.

John

John,

What type of trees?

What is the diameter of the trees, or largest diameter cuts to smallest?

Husky saws are also very good.

Go the 025 easy start kit with 16 inch bar n 325 low pro chain it'll do 95% of your fire wood.
The 29 an okish saw but not small and not big so falls short in both areas.
With the money saved by a pair of cut proof saw chaps save your legs eh.

Thanks for the advice, Just got off the Phone with Ace Hardware, I ordered the MS250 C-BE Easy start with tool less chain adjuster, Think its a good start and will be happy with it, I was thinking about the muffler mod. for more power after the warranty is up of course, is this a good saw to do that with or no? , and is there a air filter kit or something that can be done that doesn't void the warranty??? or am I just stuck on the more cc thing is better?

Good pick easy start a joy (note its weird at 1st as you don't have to yank it just a gentle pull n she'll kick over) and yes mods may void a warranty but I canna recall anytime I had to take a stihl back for anything serious. Er did you get the chaps.

I wouldn't worry too much about mods, worry more about sharp chains and the right height for the rakers.
